    Re: Phoenix PT239 For Sale

    I wish I could swing it, but the timing isn't quite right.  Funny how the availability of money never quite lines up with the availability of good deals!

    Best of luck, though.  Looks like a fine instrument at a fine price point.

    MarkS:

    Clarion and Dave have carefully explained how Phoenix, as well as Allen and others handle the extra specifications.  The other alternative is that of the Rodgers' Voice Palette, where the "hidden" voices may differ radically from the names on the stop knobs.  It avoids the pitch straitjacket of the Phoenix and Allen--plus it allows mixing voices of different organ building schools, but introduces another variable, where an unfamiliar organist can select a Krummhorn and get something completely different, such as Handbells.  And yes, it has happened to me.

    =====================================

    Phoenix Organs are not limited to the constraints referred to as a "pitch straight-jacket".  Any stop sample can be assigned to any stop tab or drawknob with only few mouse-clicks using the Phoenix Configuration Software... no limitations as you mention.  The number of "hidden" samples in any given Phoenix Organ will vary, but if one wishes and requests it, we can build the organ with as many extra hidden stops as one wishes, and from any organ building school.  Phoenix Organs has even built an organ where the English Reed stops are changed to French Reeds with a "flick of a switch" tab control as desired by the customer.  Pretty much any custom configuration is possible.  As mentioned before, stop samples are placed to avoid "surprises" such as Hand Bells under a 8' Krummhorn, or a State Trumpet under a 2' Flute... not a pleasant thing to happen!

    Thanks!

    Dave.

    I am happy for you and the new owner.  This was a rare opportunity.

    Thanks, Menschenstimme.

    The new owner is very happy to have found a used Phoenix Organ.  He had some other financial set backs while we were talking, and that almost made him pass this opportunity up. But in the end he realized what a rare opportunity this was and went ahead with the purchase.  This is the only used Phoenix Organ I have ever heard of, at least in North America.   (I think there may have been one was sold in England a while back when someone bought a larger Phoenix.)

    Glad it will be in a nice home, and well appreciated.

     Dave.
