    Headphone recommendations?

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for some great-sounding headphones for use with electronic organs?  Most places these days seem to sell headphones in blister packs and don't have any display items for audition.  Many that I've listened to seem to have too much emphasis on bass with no tonal adjustment.

    Thanks,

    Rick

Sennheiser, HD series.  I haven't found better sound reproduction quality for the money, especially for the challenging range of modern digital organs.

Thanks for the recommendation, Tom.  I'll definitely look into these.

I use a pair of Roland RH-300 headphones and am very pleased with sound quality and reproduction. I think they're somewhat more expensive that the Sennheiser model, but these were recommended.

Thanks Larigot.  I note that these are a closed design.  The better Sennheisers seem to be of open design, so can be heard by other people around.  I have to decide which way I want to go.  Right now, I'm leaning toward the Sennheiser HD-555.  This appears to be a good trade-off between sound quality and price.

I, too, thought I might want an "open" headphone to be able to hear what's going on around me, but then decided that when I'm practicing I would probably prefer to cut out some of the extraneous noises that might detract. If my dog wants my attention, I'm sure I'll hear his bark or feel the tug on the back of my shirt! Good luck with your purchase decision!

I "second" the Sennheiser, HD series headphones.  I have a pair that work very well.

    Re: Headphone recommendations?

Another option you may consider are Sony MDR  7506 headphones.  They are a closed design that actually has a nice "open" sound.  They are very accurate and are the industry standard for audio production.  I have a pair myself and they are wonderful!  Their frequency range is VERY wide 10Hz-20,000Hz.  I have several pairs of different Sennheiser's that are also great.  Whether you pick Sennheiser's or the MDR 7506, you will have a GREAT sounding pair of headphones.  It's just a matter of personal taste.  Good luck!

    Re: Headphone recommendations?

My sincere thanks to all of you for your input.  It is greatly appreciated.

Well...after sifting through literally hundreds of user reviews on the internet, I have ordered the Sennheiser HD-555...and also the Sony MDR  7506 for those times when someone else in the house MUST be watching TV.  I can't believe they'd rather not listen to me practice...how odd!

Thanks again, and I'll let you know which I prefer.

It's yet another clear case of lack of taste. It seems to be rampant.
