    Looking for Air Force Hymn

Does anyone have any idea where I can download (and pay for) a copy of the Air Force hymn, Lord Guard and Guide...?  I'd kind of like it for this Sunday (nothing like waiting till the last minute), and I can't find it.  Thank you.

I would check at the AF Museum for cds or downloads. Then if no joy I would check at www.military.com  join up and ask on the AF forum there.

Re: Looking for Air Force Hymn

At sheetmusicplus.com, I found a choral version.  After the introduction, it appears it's the same melody as "Oh, Master, Let Me Walk With Thee."

I do know it is in the Air Force Hymnal as well.

You can hear a copy of the song here:  http://www.heritageofamericaband.af.mil/recordings/ceremonialmusic.asp

    Hope this helps.

Re: Looking for Air Force Hymn

    Hi all,

I listened to the Air Force hymn.  The tune is indeed QUEBEC.  This tune is used for the following hymn texts.

    • Jesus, thou Joy of loving hearts!
    • O God of love, O King of peace
    • Take Up Your Cross, the Savior Said
    • O Grant Us Light
    • O Love divine, that stooped to share
    • Blest Are the Humble Souls That See
    • O God of mercy! hearken now:
    • O LORD, Come Quickly; Hear Me Pray
    • O Lord, Make Haste to Hear My Cry
    • Savior, when night involves the skies
    • We Worship Round This Table

QUEBEC is metrically (8.8.8.8.(L.M.)) the same as "O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee" and is melodically similar to "O Master,"  However, the tune for "O Master" is MARYTON.

    I hope this helps.

    Allen,

Thank you so much.  I sit corrected, and must confess I didn't have time to listen to the entire piece.  It's been almost 20 years since I played it for the Air Force base chapels in Maine and Ohio (I used to provide organ music for them).

I did run across references to Quebec in my research today, but somehow was led to believe it was a variant from the original Air Force hymn.  You wouldn't believe how many people think the official Air Force Hymn is, Off we go, into the wild, blue yonder. . . .  Imagine singing that for church!!!Surprise
