OAS came out around 2000 and was eventually discontinued around 2014 and providing it is running OAS 7 then all the packages (Sounds, Styles etc.) are still available, as are parts, if it is running OAS 6 or less (IE: The previous owner had not had it upgraded) then as a hardware change was required for OAS 7 you will have to check with Wersi to see if they still have parts available.
As far as upgrading to OAX (From OAS) then providing a similar OAX model is available (Covers most of the OAS organs) then the complete innards are removed and replaced with new, and while originally had to be done at the factory, Wersi were looking to train all their dealers to perform the upgrade rather than having to transport the instrument to the factory, so check with Wersi to see if it is available from your Wersi dealer yet. (There was also talk of OAX upgrades for earlier CD Line Models (Spectra etc.) which came out in 1987, so if you have one of these instruments it may be worth contacting Wersi to see if it is now available)
As Andy say’s, there will always come a time where it is uneconomical to update existing models, but at least Wersi gives you an upgrade option. (As does Bohm)
Here is how it is done
