'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

    Hi there,

As some of you may remember I want to put scanner in L100. I know it's not gonna be easy but I'd like to give it a try!

I'll keep you informed about the progress - at the moment I've got:

    - drum vibrato scanner from T-series

    - motor from T-series (they have the necessary pulley for the scanner) and the belt

    - mounting brackets - although I've only got the two vertical parts of it - I'm not sure if this is gonna be enough to mount the scanner

I am missing delay line - I have asked for it but the seller sent me reverb unit instead. When I asked him about something that looks like a set of caps and industors, he sent me the top cover from TG. At least he tried his best but it doesn't solve my problem.

My question is - can I use any delay line from any Hammond?

My other question is about DIY delay line. What are the values for capacitors and inductors (and chorus resistor)?

Your help will be much appreciated!

    Kris

P.S. JonC3 has done something similar to his L100 but he literally removed L100's guts and put AO-28 and that's NOT what I want to do. That will be my last resort if I fail to do it my way.

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

It could be costly buying all those inductors if you're going to make a line box......

I have a good friend in Norway who may have some parts from a T500 and there's a chap in Australia who offered me some T200 parts, though his T200 may one day get restored....

Should I try and call in some favours, do you think?

Since I can't find values for the inductors I can't build my own delay line.

You could contact those people or send me their e-mail addresses to gietek80@googlemail.co.uk

    Thanks

    Kris

P.S. I have contacted 2 other places in the UK where they service Hammonds. I wonder if they have it.

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

Why didn't the so-and-sos put the values in the service manual, grrrrr!

There are some T's being parted out on eBay and a couple of really cheap non-runners have been on in recent days. You've probably already looked!

Personally, I'd have started with the T and gone that way, but that's just me! :)

It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

The problem with people selling Hammonds for parts is that they just want to get rid of the organ as it is. I have tried to contact few sellers to sell me vibrato scanner assembly (even for double money!) but they simply weren't interested.

And the problem with Hammonds is their weight and shipping costs.

I've just got replay from the service - they want £45.00 for delay line (M-series) Tongue Tied

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

Not to hijack, but if someone were to supply the values from a working line box, would it be possible to rebuild the entire delay line with modern components? I have the old CV/M style big silver box (with big, soggy looking inductors), and since I'm building the M into a portable chop case, it would help a lot if I could make a smaller one--while also replacing all the old components.

Hopefully this helps; Stefan posted his vibrato line box overhaul/rebuild.

    stefan:
In my line box, there are fifteen 0.0056μF (5.6nF) capacitors and one 0.0027μF (2.7nF) capacitor, all rated for 200V.

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

I read somewhere that there are 3 types of delay lines. They work exactly the same way but the components' values are different.

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

Since I have just received vibrato box from an M, I decided to start my little project.

I expect major problem with matching vibrato and not-vibrato signals but that I will take care of later.

I was very positively surprised with the fact that, as long as you have mounting brackets from a T, you can fit vibrato scanner next to the motor.

    Just take a look:

I haven't put the belt in place as it seems too loose.

But when I started the organ, the scanner sounds a bit noisy. Any ideas?

    Cheers

    Kris

P.S. Where do I solder the black thin wire connected to a metal plate at the back of the scanner?

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

Is threre anyone who have Hammond T with drum vibrato scanner who could tell me where to put that black wire at the back of the scanner please?

    That would be great help.

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

Hey L meister! (Kon showed me your youtube clips ala "Hammond Idiot" Cool!!!!!)

is that wire the one with the little loop for attaching to a screw?

If so, it goes on one of the screws that holds the metal plate on at one of the ends.

Do you want the bit from the service manual describing the scanner and care of?

    Hi Brendon!

Thanks a lot for your instant answer!

Please don't mention that video Embarrassed

The problem is I don't have that loop - it's been cut off obviously. But hey, I can stick it under the screw anyway.

    Cheers

Re: 'Adding vibrato scanner to L100' project

    Ach, nein!

    'Tis a masterful performance!

I even quoted it as an example to someone who was worried about their lack of lead playing. I showed them your first one, which was all rhythmic as far as I can recall,  but because of your stage act as well as the evolving rhythms it never got dull.

The wire IS the shortish one, eh?

The back's off the organ now (as always!) I'll go take another peek now... there is a wire connected to the TG and motor chassis if I recall...

    Back inna mo....
