  • We're Back

It took a little longer than anticipated, as the move involved nearly 100,000 files and several gigabytes of data, but we're back online running from our new server in the cloud. Hopefully, this will provide us with the stability and responsiveness we've not had for the past several months.

Having said that, since we are operating under a new environment, we may experience some glitches until everything is fine-tuned and any lurking bugs get shaken out. If you experience a problem, send me either a Private Message, or click on the Contact Us link in the footer describing your problem, the steps you took to get there, and the exact wording of any error messages displayed.

I should mention that, at this time, I'm still in the process of moving the Gallery files, so it may not be possible to access it until that's been completed. That may be a few days yet.

Thank you all for your patience through the times of trouble and this migration process.

Thank you so much, Admin! I'm surprised it took this little amount of time to migrate the server. Normally, a handful of issues must be solved as they come up, which can take days. Servers must be better at migration than they have been in the past when I dealt with them.

    Thank you!

I'd been preparing for this move since early September and encountered most the issues that needed to be worked out during various stagings. The issue that became a sticking point during the migration yesterday was the configuration of the SSL server certificates. This was primarily due to conflicting information on where and how to install them and the rat's nest of symlinks that comprises the Linux directory structure on this server.

Quick observations after the first 6 hours up–it's quite zippy! I hope it lasts.

It should be even zippier when I add back in the caching proxy back in.. There was an anomaly that took the site off-line a couple of hours ago. I was woking on restoring the Gallery at the time, and am hoping that was the reason. Keeping fingers crossed. 🤞 The Gallery is currently read only, but usable, as there are still some additional configuration steps to make it fully functional.

Thanks for all the hard work, Admin! It's been a while since I've been active on the forum, and I just now read up on the migration and all the work involved. We are all ever so grateful for your efforts. My limited browsing in the past couple hours has been uneventful, as everything seems to work and operation is quite zippy. I hope it has been "the cloud" that we needed all along!

I'm sure you know that it has been frustrating at times, when the forum seemed to be up and down, you'd never know if it was going to work or not. I look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting some new ones here in the near future.

Yes, it was a long journey filled with frustration to get back to a semblance of stability. There are still periodic outages, but the frequency is down to about once a week and I now get a warning notification via email that something is amiss so I can usually get things back on track with an hour or so. The next version of the Forum software should be released in a week or two and it fixes a bug in the current version that was contributing to the problems we were having for the past several months. Things should improve further.

Always good to see you here jbird604. Thanks for the feedback.
