• how many PIPE organs have been built in the USA?

I was asked by a friend in Paris how many pipe organs are in the USA.....that really caught me off guard...thoughts on this?

I said 100,000 as a guess....Moller did 12,000 Wicks is over 10,000....so just from two builders at over 20,000..surely the hundreds of other builders have put us over the 100,000 count? thoughts?

    Aeolian/Skinner...(?) 1300 and 1400.

    Holtkamp...(?)

    Estey...(?)

    Wurlitzer...2334.

Those are just the major builders from the last century. There were lots of others, like Odell.

Whoa! The question your friend asked was not the same as the one in the topic title. There are more pipe organs in the USA (your friend's question) than were built here. My church's organ, for example, was built in Bonn, Germany but is located in Richardson, Texas. I'm sure that foreign-built organs are a small percentage of the pipe organs located in the USA, but they would add to the number found here.
