    I am having some problems with Shockwave - one of which is playing YouTube in the full-screen mode, especially in Firefox - not so bad in IE8. Is there a simple way to "replace" Shockwave with Flash? I really do not need Shockwave's advanced features, Flash is adequate for my needs.

    You can disable it.
    Tools - Add-On Manager - Plugins - scroll down to shockwave and disable it.
    Not sure that will make any difference though.
    Is your Firefox up to date?

      Yes, my Firefox is very much up to date. After I disable Shockwave, can I then install Flash in its place to view YouTube?

        I may have fixed my Firefox YouTube full screen problem by unchecking "use hardware acceleration when available" to wit:
