Can't say I have any issues--there are very few movies made about COBOL computer programmers....

Well, I'm retired now, but as a preacher in my day the way preachers are usually represented in the movies creates a pretty bad impression, Elmer Gantry, and other such.

Unfortunately there are quite a few that make it easy for them, but we are not all like that. Some of us care about the folks we minister to and in small country churches we certainly weren't in it for the money.

AMEN!!! It toasts my cookies when almost every movie, TV show, or other media portray any form of religion as fanatical, rather than a part of a well-adjusted person's life.

I have a couple loaded ones (because of today's media): That all organists/musicians are--gay, and that all law enforcement are racist. Being in both fields, I can certainly testify otherwise.

          Michael,
Do you equate being gay with the same level of odium as being a racist?

              Do you?

Would it help you understand they are separate occupations and separate assumptions if they were in separate posts? Sheesh. Do you really need to take this thread in a direction it doesn't need to go? WOW!

Like David, can't remember much movies about any of the jobs I ever had. Let's check:
                - school leaver designing plastic and metal parts for cabling networks
                - electronics engineer making the electronics for what must have been the last baseband modem put in production
                - free lance electronics engineer doing whatever came around, from parts for medical machines to artistic light show installations
                - technical support for fire and gas detection gear
                - bureaucratic paper waster

Guess only the last one has a chance to ever been subject for a movie...

                  Hmm, me neither.

                  Junior staff office clerk.
                  Organ salesman
                  Employment office clerk
                  Organist / product specialist
                  Freight clearance officer
                  Music teacher

Maybe there's been a movie about music teachers??
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Junior staff office clerk.--TV Show: The Office?
Employment office clerk--Movie: Dave (He became President).
Music teacher--Movie: Mr Holland's Opus (My wife, a music teacher, HATES that movie because she thinks it's too sappy).
bureaucratic paper waster--Movie: The Pelican Brief?
electronics engineer making the electronics for what must have been the last baseband modem put in production--Movie: Wargames (OK, that's a stretch). I think there's also a movie about Steve Wozniak and his beginnings. Perhaps that would apply--they hacked phones?

So, what makes y'all cringe about those?

How about robot technician (not really my title, but "electrician" isn't very specific)?

You know, we're all single (for obvious reasons) slobs who build silly talking things that either try to take over the world, or just do other immoral things.

I haven't seen any films about Army Bandsmen. Although Private Pruitt was a former bugler in "From Here to Eternity", and he ends up getting killed by American troops by mistake. I suppose that would make me cringe.

What about the (ancient) TV show F Troup, or the film: Sergeant York?

I'm a structural engineer and I think the best one I've seen was "Infrastructure" on John Oliver's Last Week Tonight. There's plenty of cringe worthy puns and jokes but they are pretty accurate.
