  • What are modern music racks on organs made of?

I have been given a task by one of the accompanist at my church. She wants me to mod the music rack on our Yamaha piano to be more like the one on our organ. Our organ is only about a decade old and has a music rack that is made from some kind of plexiglass, lexan or something like it. Whenever she puts loose sheet music on it, it sticks to it like a magnet. What can I get to put on top of the piano music rack to give it the same effect?

Many organ music racks are made of acrylic sheet material, generic material like Plexiglas. Probably the easiest way to implement this material on a piano would be to cut a piece of it to the outline of the existing music rack and just set it in front of the existing rack.

Any "cling" is just the natural electrostatic property of the acrylic.

See: https://www.tapplastics.com/product_...mation/acrylic for one source of acrylic sheets--Tap Plastics will cut to order and polish the edges (recommended). 1/4 or 3/8 thickness is probably best.

A quick internet search will provide many other sources for this material.
