What's the going rate for lessons?

Anybody have a clue about this? For a major US city? Thanks.</P>

I pay $40 per lesson (1 hour usually) at my home with a top notch teacher.

Hmm...that's helpful. I just started with a new teacher (who doesn't have any other students and hasn't taught in years) and she didn't seem to know what current rates are either. We agreed on $50, but I thought it seemed a little low.

I paid $70 a lesson to study with the organist at the Navy Academy, and that was a few years ago, so I'm sure it's gone up a little.

Here in Houston, TX I paid a mere $30 per lesson at a nearby church. The organist was also the music director and was recommenced by the local AGO. When I remarked that $30 was a bargain and I told him that I paid $45 per lesson for my piano teacher, he said that he wanted to encourage new organists. The low rate was like a charitable contribution to "the cause."</p>

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
