    RIP Dr. John

Dr. John is gone at 77.

I'm sure many know his voice and his songs.

But many may not know that the colorful good doc played B3.

Back in '73 I remember "Right Place".......key of Eb IIRC!
    Yep.....Eb!!!!
He was so cool, had a unique sound and carved out a whole new niche for himself.
    There will never be another.
Lucky I got to work with another 'equivalent eccentric' from the UK.....Long John Baldry,
He performed a few of the Dr's tunes over the years,Iko Iko and 'Right Place'.
Kathi McDonald sang with the Dr. before.....and knew him well!

He did have a great knowledge, and played the heck out of the B3 too!
Saw him perform here a few years ago and what a show it was!

Will play a 'cakewalk' in his honor and memory!
At peace, his music lives on,never to be forgotten!

Long John Baldry was influential as Reginald Dwight became Elton John from Elton Mayo and John Baldry.

But yeah when Dr. John came out with Right Place, the world of music changed.

It was mystifying to say the least.

The clothes he wore were out there!

His long time drummer Bucky Berger?(from Montreal) Plays with Fathead along with LJB bandmate Papa John King on guitar?
Bucky sat in with me at Pender Harbour a few years back. Both are great players!
IIRC Bucky also did a stint with Doucette. The guy can play.....

        Eccentric and wonderful Dr John.
        Great players in his band.

I like hearing about your collabs with the heavyweights, Pete.

          Doc played guitar as well.

My favourite image of him was a short moment from a video I saw a couple of years ago. He was playing a piano and then slowly turned round in a "what's that sneaking up being me" way that only someone from Norlans seems to be able to do. He then casually played a too-far-away B3 without turning far enough to see it.
