  • Sad church for sale -- hope somebody buys and loves it back to life

I love checking this site to see what unusual residential offerings occur

The church in Hudson NY looks to be in great condition -- anybody know anything of its organ history? The only remnant (?) of an instrument are a crude display of flute pipes. Taking a wild guess those painted areas up front are grille cloth hiding chambers.

One feature of the building is delightfully extreme, no? ;-)

I'd feel really guilty living there. Especially after putting a large array of antennas on that steeple.

Yeeow! Victor thanks for the YouTube link. I actually downloaded that video to watch again. That really made me kind of sad to watch how those two youngsters traverse the old building with its centuries old testimony of art, workmanship, solemn worship and nostalgia. It is indeed sad to see such a magnificent relic of the past go to waste. And apparently open to anyone who dares to venture into the passages of time trapped inside this beautiful piece of architecture. I cringed when one of the boys picked up that old organ pipe to blow through it and then speculated that it sounds like an Australian digeridoo.... almost like sacrilege.
Cannot help but think about how many thousands of hymns were sung there under the majestic sounds of that organ, all the prayers that went up through the battery of bells to the God who was once worshipped there, perhaps over several centuries. And then those bells!
        Aaagh! cannot stand it!

Here's the sad story about attempts to preserve the church:

All these buildings are but a sad simile of the state of the Church.

Wow, Organfella -- you've got the verbal skills! I trust you're writing for publication -- articles, poems, screenplays? Letters to editors at least?

Naaa, I'm just an ordinary lover of anything old and ancient telling stories of history and times long past - but I do write articles, mostly for the Seminary for the benefit of undergrad students to supplement their study research on Biblical topics. So far no one has threatened to break my kneecaps so I must have done something right.... eh?

There was once a wonderful NYTimes article, 'The Bible Written By Committee" (sic). Wanted to link it here but can't find a trace of it online.

That's really neat. Some interesting old buildings there. Quite a spire on that church too.

Thanks, AllenAnalog -- unbearably tragic, huh. 7 or 8 (or more) owners in 39 years! The bell's tolling for a hell of a lot more than just that one sanctuary or denomination :(

On a lighter note -- one would hope -- get this rustic beauty

........as I said, merely one of many disused churches being offered thru this wonderful site. I enjoy checking on all "my" areas past and present to see what houses that I remember are being sold, for how much, what they're looking like inside etc.
