• AGO Convention in Minneapolis - Downtown Hotel

I'm planning to attend the AGO convention in Minneapolis. The convention hotel is the Hilton, rather expensive. Does anyone live in that area and know of a downtown hotel that would be less costly, yet not the sort of place where I'd be mugged? Thanks for any information you can provide.

Mugged?? In Minnesota? Let me get this straight.. you think that someone... oh good Lord..

If someone does mug you here, they will first offer you hotdish or a cookie before they do it and all you'd have to say is, "what do you think Pastor Stordhalen would think of this if you told him.." Crime in Minnesota? hahahah

Oh, yea, you just have to watch out for our bridges they tend to collapse for no reason...

All of the downtown hotels are pricey. The Normandy-Best Western might be a few bucks cheaper, but to find a room in the $100 range or less you'll have to look outside the downtown areaor across the river in St. Paul, and then transportation becomes an issue (unless you're OK withusing our Metro Transit system to get back and forth from the convention each day) Perhaps buzzy could offer some real midwest hospitality and offer to pick you up each morning and drop you off downtown!

I don't understand the laughter - is the public transportation not reliable? I see there is a light rail line out to the airport and presumably buses elsewhere. Should I not count on using them? I would presume that during the convention dates they will pipe organ music into the coaches/buses for the enjoyment of the passengers.

Please forgive buzzyreed. I think he is feeling the effect of a long tiresome winter. Our public transit system isn't quite on par with London or New York, but you'll have no trouble. Look at metrotransit.org for all the info.By the way, the only music you'll hear on the busses will be from people's ipods!
