  • Cat and canary, scene from what 60's - 70's TV show or movie?

I saw this on TV in the late 60's or early 70's but can't remember the name. It may have been a TV show such as The Avengers (Diana Rigg) or a spy movie such as a James Bond.

The hero and his lady companion are captured by the villain. In typical villain fashion he plans to kill them both by some elaborate means, and will deal with the lady first, making her play a game of Cat and Canary.

She is placed in a maze of geometrically shaped tunnels, may have been unarmed, while one or possibly several others with weapons chased her through the maze. I think she was pursued by other women, and of course they were all wearing snug clothing and knee high boots.

Meanwhile the villain and the hero watch the action on a video monitor. He assures the hero that the cat always gets the canary, but of course the lady is clever and better at hand to hand combat than the villain expected so she is able to defeat the canaries and eventually escapes the tunnel maze.

Sound familiar? Anyone know the name of the show or movie? Internet searches have only turned up a movie titled Cat and Canary but doesn't appear to have this scene.

I was big fan of hers, even though I was only about five years old when my Dad and I would watch The Avengers.

For me it was junior high thru high school, not sure if I would say that was the best, or worst time to be exposed to Diana 8)

Perhaps you are thinking of an Avengers episode, "The House that Jack Built". Emma Peel "inherits" a house that turns out to be a trap designed to drive her mad, and, ultimately, kill her. The house has things like rooms that rotate when the door is closed, so that when she opens it again, it opens to a different part of the house. A good synopsis is here: https://www.dissolute.com.au/the-ave...ack-built.html.

I looked up The House That Jack Built and found some clips of it on youtube. Looks like a good episode, but was not the show I saw. Thanks for the tip though.
