Hello James and welcome to this Forum. You will find it is frequented by a bunch of jolly nice people. I have both the GAK25 and the GAH25-3. They are awesome organs with beautiful sound and loud capabilities. Old and heavy but worth having.
Again, welcome
Nico
"Don't make war, make music!" Hammonds, Lowreys, Yamaha's, Gulbransens, Baldwin, Technics, Johannus. Reed organs. Details on request... B-)
The forum is as others have said above, but I'll add that there is much experience and a good amount of wisdom among the forum members. While I used the member's knowledge to help me decide which organ to buy, I've found that I'm still exploring and learning in the various forum channels here. Be sure to look into the other channels beyond your "specific organ type" or "favorite" ones because you'll find helpful and/or interesting information you didn't know you were looking for!
I thought I had already sent a welcome message, but I guess I'm imagining things in my old age. In any event, welcome to the Forum! You'll find very helpful people here, and of course, we always look for your contributions as well. I've learned so much from others' questions, I wish I could count the hundreds of things I have learned here.
Again, welcome, and I look forward to your contributions.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
Thank you all for your kind welcomes. I will be moving house this summer, so intend to post a picture of the organ when it's settled in the new home. I recently had a problem with the Leslie making a dreadful racket. I'm no expert, but I felt that the drive belt was a bit loose, so I tightened it up, and now the Leslie's spinning away as it should.
While round the back I found the notice: "Oil -" and an arrow. I tried squirting a bit of oil in, but I think I was supposed to actually take the Leslie out for that!

James,
I've found that the belt on my Lowrey's Leslie (DSO-1) changes with the seasons. Dry humidity in the Winter and cold temperatures can cause the belt to be tighter, while the humid Summer and warm weather can cause the belt to be looser.

Thanks for the tip - have to remember to slacken it off later in the year.
No need. You should be good once you find a tension that works. Personally, I wouldn't change it again until it doesn't work. The major difference for mine is that the Leslie spins up slower in the Winter than Summer. I'm actually OK with that.

Frequently? You make it sound like there is normally mean and surly people! Don't scare him off! ;-)
Anyways, welcome and I hope to see your thoughts and opinions on the forum!

Just looked up this old post - I've moved house, but the Lowrey is still in bits as the new house isn't finished yet. I've just bought a Hammond now, which is smaller and considerably lighter, but the Lowrey needs a dedicated place. I look forward to having my new music studio set up!

James,
Just to help you feel better about your house & organ, I began building my garage in May 2018 to house my organs. Between medical issues and cantankerous contractors, I've been waiting since August 2020 for an electrician to complete the electricity so I can finish the insulation! It was supposed to be done this week, but he decided to take a vacation up north!X-(
Don't feel too bad. One of my Allens I brought back home, and it's been in a storage unit since 2018 because of the garage. https://organforum.com/forums/forum/...t-up-questions Better luck with your project-I feel your pain!

NOW you tell me, James! Why didn't you join before?
I actually thought about a pit in the floor for working on cars (change oil, etc.), but figured it would be a liability if people come into the garage and fall in. It might also rattle if the subs get to moving the air. OTOH, I could put the subs in the pit?
James, Yahoo didn't exactly close the Groups down--they still work with e-mail (I use one for genealogy). Welcome to the Organ Forum! I spent 3 years in Germany (loved it) but never got to Hamburg. (I was stationed at Ramstein, near Kaiserslautern.)
As long as you don't weight yourself after eating the burger, you're fine!;-) When in Germany, I needed to remember when I ordered soda to request sans gas and also to request ice. We each have our own proclivities.
