  • Oh dear - here we go!

Just seen this from March last year. [Edit: On reading it more closely I think it must be a spoof, but not a very funny one.]

    Spoof:
From the article itself - Royal College of Organists and Organ Grinders (RCOOG) - a group very unlikely to exist.

Actual names and appointments which are creatively misspelled in the article mentioned.
Incumbent: Rachel Treweek The Bishop of Gloucester
Vivienne Frances Faull (born 20 May 1955) is a British Anglicanbishop and Lord Spiritual. Since 2018, she has served as the Bishop of Bristol.

That's enough for me to read it as humor, though there are often bits of truth to be found in such writings.

Exactly. At first I quickly skimmed the article, concentrating on the first and last paragraphs, but when I read it properly (see Edit) I spotted the same give-aways as you. However the 'quote' from Lambeth Palace does correctly identify Justin Welby as Archbishop of Canterbury which initially leant some air of authenticity. Just as well I did notice as he might otherwise have received an uncomplimentary e-mail X-(.

And Canterbury Cathedral is spending/has just spent nearly £4m on upgrading the organ.

Lest there be any remaining doubt about the whether or not this is a spoof, the following paragraph should make it clear:

Jenny-Josiah Jimplecute, the Church of England's first transgender bishop, spoke on sexism and racism in the Song of Songs. “King Solomon was a polygamist with 700 wives. He oppressed them by forcing them to share his living quarters in the palace with 300 porcupines,” she told the conference.

King Solomon is alleged to have had 700 wives and 300 concubines, not porcupines!

Yes, a true recipe for disaster. Those porcupines would have really done a number on all the nice woodwork!

Mind you, think of all the opportunities to do artistic quill-work! https://www.google.com/search?q=quil...w=1303&bih=851

It's satire! The writer is: https://www.julesgomes.com/about

It is certainly over the top, but he makes strong points in his writings - though they're a bit too exaggerated for me. Some very thought-provoking articles, though.

Never heard of him until this. What has the world come to when we (well me, anyway) can contemplate even for a minute that this might have been true 🤔?
