Soubasse32 might be the only one interested. Oh well! [8-|] We've already had a thread about the use of the organ in Demy's Umbrellas of Cherbourg. And I've brought up the interesting organ music in the revolutionary 1961 film "Last Year at Marienbad", though nobody replied to that thread.</p>

So, name this film that, perhaps even more interestingly than Marienbad, uses a pipe organ quite frequently, but only for accompaniment (most of Marienbad has a through composed, solo organ score that I'm aghast nobody has bothered to perform or re-record)

It is not set in the United States or Western Europe.</p>

The score features music by Bach &amp; Beethoven, though they are not the composer of the organ music.</p>

It briefly features the sound of a reed organ playing as well.</p>

the music has be re-recorded, unlike the music from Marienbad, and is available on itunes (of course!) and there is a video of the re-recording on youtube. In fact there are quite a few videos on youtube related to this movie, such as a clip of the lead actress being interviewed

I'd reckon the clue to hone in on is "launched the career of the instrumentalist" there are only so many instrumentalists who have international careers. (final hint: it wasn't the organist!)</p>

I gave it a few years!

The film was "Picnic at Hanging Rock" by Peter Weir. The instrumentalist whose career was partly launched by it was Zamfir, whose striking pan flute accompanied by a pipe organ helped develop the story's theme of some prim Edwardian schoolgirls encountering a mysterious aboriginal force in the outback of Australia. The organist was Swiss ethnomusiclogist and composer Marcel Cellier.
