  • Reasonable amount to rent a Church Pipe Organ, by the Hour, for Practice?

What would be a reasonable amount to rent a church pipe organ, by the hour, for practice purposes?

This would be in the state of Arizona. Thanks for any good advice.

The answer to this question is what are you willing to pay?

My question would be whether you will need heating or A/C. Basically, you're reimbursing the church for power for the organ and perhaps HVAC. Some of the money would also go toward the maintenance of the organ.

Another thought would be to check with a local college where one can find organ lessons. They will probably have a handle on which organs students can use for practice and how much to reimburse.

I spoke with an organ teacher here in AZ, and he suggested $10 for an organ practice session, which
can last up to 2 hours.

Sound very reasonable to me! :->

If you can find a church or someone to let you use their organ for $5.00 / hour go for it, but I think you'll have a difficult time. A $10 return for a 2 hour session is simply not worth the effort and risk to rent your facility to a stranger.

Perhaps the organ teacher who suggested that will rent you practice time on his organ at that rate, but I'd wager not.

Although this organ teacher said "up to 2 hours", I was inferring a one hour session, so he agreed that
        $10/hour would be reasonable.

Thirty years ago I was paying $5 per hour at a United Church of Christ; SO, I'm sure $10 (or more) is reasonable today.

Here in Arizona there are two AGO chapters who might be able to help you with your quest:

            1) Central Arizona AGO Chapter and/or 2) Southern Arizona AGO Chapter

Both chapters are also on Facebook.
