  • Reminiscing

On Mother's Day I've been reminiscing with my wife on my early days of playing "On This Day O Beautiful Mother" during the wedding section of the RC service when the bride would present the bouquet at the Marian altar. Also, I remembered playing "Stabat Mater" during the Sorrowful Mother Novena. All you older RC's will know what I mean.

Ah yes, those are classics. Two very different styles though! Still I love them both.

I was playing the entire collection (Bring Flowers of the Fairest, On This Day Oh Beautiful Mother, etc.) only a few short years ago for May Crowning (before I resigned the position). I'm assuming they are still being sung at that church. Outside of Christmas, those hymns had the strongest participation by the congregation. I've always liked them. They are still used in Latin Mass congregations.
