• How to add MIDI to an Allen ADC-4100

Is it possible to add MIDI to an Allen 4100? Also, does anyone have any extra information on this instrument?

Yes, Alan, there is considerable information available on the forum. Some of it comes from me, as I have added MIDI to several Allen organs, including the ADC4000 at my church. (The 4100 is a supplementary version of the 4000, with a 32' pedal stop, a flute celeste on the great, and perhaps another stop or two.)

All ADC model Allens can be upgraded to MIDIwith a single board available from Allen for a few hundred dollars. The board is plug-and-play, no re-wiring or fiddling with contact switches. It providesMIDI in and MIDI out (keying data only, no stop or expression data is transmitted or received).

Each division of the organ operates on a different MIDI channel, so it's easy to connect to outboard MIDI expanders. The only bump in the road is figuring out how to do expression on the MIDI expanders. Also, the MIDI stream does not contain transposer data, so if you use the transposer a lot, you'll want to get Al Johnson's board that solves that problem.
