• What do you think?

I recently got ride of my Kawai dx-900 to get a Conn 716. I wanted an organ with full pedalboard.A church was that I knew was giving it away so I took it. They had mounted the speakers and the small leslie in the walls of the sanctuary and it had the middle sized of Conn Pipes. I kind of like it but I was wondering what peoples opinions of this model is? I saw the other Conn forums but was wondering about this model. I can't find much about them. I was wondering also if people know any background on them. It doeshave a pedal voice stuck on and was wondering about how much that would be. The diapson also it very loud and was wondering why that was. I didn't hook the pipes up so don't know how they sound.

    Thanks

I have done alot of work with Conn organs and like them very much. I owned a 720 (preceeded your organ by about 10 - 12 years) and found the features and voices very compatible with church music. I have a penchant for theater sound and thought the rotor (which on mine wasn't yet made by Leslie) made it a comfortable fit for me. I don't do too many numbers of classical nature, but the great thing about the church Conn was that it was capable as a classical organ as well. This may be the reason for the dominance of diapason in your instrument. It was probably the preference of the previous church organist toward classical sound. You should be able to correct this at the amp.

I have a trinidad theater spinet that had the pipe connection, but I wasn't ready to spend the money that pipes were selling for so I hooked the circuit up to two small stereo speakers and found the effect very dynamic and exciting. So as the connector must be already installed in yours, it is just a matter of wiring up the pipes. If yours should be in need of repair there is a previous thread giving those instructions which you can locate in the forum search.

The cipher on the pedal may be physical (damage to the contact) or electronic. Without some troubleshooting it would be hard to tell. You should dismantle the pedalboard some day and give the contacts a good cleaning and inspection. If you don't find the trouble there you can move on to diagnose the generator for that note. Hope you enjoy your new organ. It was a great find as a free gift!
