What exactly is a practice organ?

Re: What is a practice organ?

My understanding of a practice organ is as follows: a pipe or electronic organ with resources smaller than what one might find in a church or hall; any organ upon which one might practice when the larger instrument is not available or when one is not inclined to attend the venue of the larger instrument. When I was a church organist, my practice organ was a Hammond RT-3 at home. When I took lessons at college, it was a seven rank Moller pipe organ. Now it is my Hauptwerk installation using the computer I'm typing on at this moment and my stereo and is playable from my three manual and pedal organ console.

A practice organ is an instrument and organist typically keeps in his/her home to practice on. It is usually electronic and smaller than a regular organ console.
