Hi, I'm new here and have been looking for an inexpensive single-manual classical organ. I am considering the Roland C-190 which is still available and which seems to me to be better value for money and more versatile than the new C-230. Has anyone here tried the 61-key Roland C-230 baroque organ? I'm not considering the Viscount Cantorum VI at the moment because of its higher cost. Another serious option is the Italian Orla CH176 Church keyboard. Has anyone here played on this not-so-well-known model? It seems to have a wide range of pipe organ sounds, but there aren't proper sound samples available to really know before buying. I might have a slight bias towards a European-sounding instrument over a perhaps more American-sounding Rodgers/Roland Classic series organ. The Content D4100 and Ahlborn Parvus II are also there, and I'm in the process of investigating their prices for my area. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Choosing a portable organ: Roland, Orla, Content etc
Hi,</p>
The Roland C-230 is actually a more European classical sounding instrument. Would sound better than a C-190, and probably is of better quality too. My guess is it is much more expensive as well.</p>
The Ahlborn Parvus would definitely be a European classical sounding instrument. Would have very clean linear baroque/classical sounds. Would sound better with external speakers.</p>
The Content D4100 is a console organ. Likely would cost a lot more than a mere keyboard organ. I have never been impressed with the lower end Content stuff.</p>
The Orla I have not seen. Apparently now their stuff is being made in China, so the price should be right.</p>
The Viscount Cantorum VI is a very good classical keyboard. I would probably not cost anymore than most other products you have listed </p>

Re: Choosing a portable organ: Roland, Orla, Content etc
Thanks. WhereI am (India) Viscount doesn't have a distributor so they would have to ship my piece by air, unlike Roland which regularly ships container-loads of their products here. Because of this the Cantorum VI works out nearly double the cost. I suppose it's clear now Ahlborn is not closing down as rumoured, so the Parvus should be a safe buy. Hope the price will be good. </P>
Yes I assume the C-230 is of better quality than the C-190, but I also want a good piano option and its Pianoforte (included to suit the Baroque orientation of this product) might not be the best for that. Besides for me it costs75% more than the 190. Also it has only 61 keys which limits the manual-splitting ability. </P>
I am getting the Orla at a good price, it's a relatively new model (2008) it has reed organ sounds (which I want for playing Cesar Franck), but it's a bit of a plunge into the unknown with not enough information available about it. Orla advertises it as a Church instrument which I suppose means it's also suitable for playing secular classical music.</P>

Here's an interesting alternative you might want to check out: http://www.nordkeyboards.com/main.asp?tm=Products&clpm=Nord_C2_Organ&cl ncm=Information</p>
With the Nord C2 you do not only get a truly portable 21 stop baroque type organ -- you also get the probably best Hammond B3 clone there is.
</p>
Pedals according to BDO norm are made by Content. Here's a 30 note straight parallell model with one swell shoe: http://www.leyman.net/z06_orgelsyste...s_nord-C2.html (towards the bottom of the page -- pardon my Swedish here!).</p>
Pedals according to AGO norm are made by Classic MIDI Works:

Re: Choosing a portable organ: Roland, Orla, Content etc
Thanks. I had in fact already asked for a quote on the Nord C-2 combo as it has a pipe organ section apart from the Hammond-like 'tone-wheel' section. Am waiting for a figure to come. Being 2-manual though it's price is going to be relatively high.</P>
AV and others, here are some links for the Orla CH176:</P>

http://web.orladirect.co.uk/productmore.php?ID=49</P>

The last link above has sound samples but the organ sample doesn't tell you much. An Al Jarreau clip on Youtube isn't of much help either:</P>

What do you think of this product? Any feedback would be very useful and I'd be grateful.</P>
Thanks</P>
