I have a really old one. It's in need of tubes and apparently more, since all the C's are dead. I used it for years, and now it's no longer usable to me. I have replaced it with an Allen digital organ. Is there a market for this sort of thing? If so I can't imagine why. Should we just dismantle it and put it out for the trash pick-up? Thanks.

Re: Baldwin Model 5
Since the C's are all dead the generator has probably given out. A rebuilt generator can be obtained from the Baldwin supply company in Springdale Arkansas. You'll find them mentioned -- complete with phone and address -- in some previous threads here on the archive. However your cost and the return at selling would probably be equal (at best). You might want to consider giving the organ away to a vintage collector and leave the repairs to them. Check out thread http://organforum.com/forums/post/116416.aspx

Re: Baldwin Model 5
Thanks for the helpful reply. My hubby who is very good at fixing it (he grew up fixing his own when he wasstudying)said he was pretty sure it was a generator which was gone, but we just haven't had the time to look around for stuff. I did find 6SN7 tubes for about $13 each, and it seems we need about 20 of them, so that along with the generator would be a somewhat hefty expense for us. I will investigate who might want this old baby. I hate wrecking it and so does my husband. Thanks for the link which I read.

Re: Baldwin Model 5
Saw your kind offer to give the organ to someone who could repair it. I'm at the opposite end of the country (S.Florida) and can't afford the moving cost. I've seen quite a few 5's trading lately. I hope some one has one near you and would be able to pick up yours for parts.

Should you be forced to dismantle the instrument you might want to determine which tubes are good and offer them for sale. Also the cabinet is an excellent wood A.G.O. specification console so you may possibly fine someone doing a MIDI organ project that would pay something for the cabinet.

Sounds like it may take a few fellows to bring that organ up the cellar stairs? Best wishes for a happy outcome.

Re: Baldwin Model 5
It took 2 movers and a dolly to get it down there. I don't think it's impossible. I like the idea of the console for a midi project, but I'd just give it away...not sell it. I really just want it gone. Thanks again.

Re: Baldwin Model 5
Just a follow-up on this. I put it on Craigslist as a give-away and it was removed today. There are a lot of needy people in Michigan trying to run businesses from home, and that's who this went to, so I feel really good about it.
