  • Rodgers Touring vs. 990 vs. 900? What are your thoughts?

    Hello,

I am debating the purchase of the following instruments? What do you think would be the wiser choice and why?

Rodgers Touring 74' Vintage 3 manual 74" wide console model 13 sp\eaker cabinets and huge tone generator

    vs. the good old 990e

vs. the 900 with about 6 speakers

They are all about $5000 each....which is better based on reliability, sound etc..?

    Thanks,

    Rodgers made several touring organs.
The original Black Beauty for Virgil Fox
was made in the late 60s I think.
    Serial Number 39105.
I drove it around for a year.
It did in fact have about 13 speaker
    cabinets and an external amplifier
rack, but the tone generators were
    all inside the console.

That was a wonderful organ but it
might be a servicing nightmare now.
It had 14 sets of oscillators for an
    excellent overall ensemble.

As much as I liked the old 990, I think
that the 900 is a better organ.
    Slightly fewer ocillators, but more
keyers, and the Great is not borrowed
from the Choir as on the 990.

Of course, each individual organ is
different, and tastes are different, so in
the end you have to make up your own mind.

      I concur with stevetil's advise.
