  • Does Anyone Know How To Tighten The Swell Pedal On An Allen MDS-65 Organ?

    Hi everyone!!

I was just wondering if there's an easy way to tighten the swell expression pedal on an Allen MDS-65? It lacks the same friction that the other expression pedals have. I'm not sure if this is a DIY adjustment, or if a technician should be dealing with it. Any advice would be helpful.

JBird604 should be able to help you in this, but if you can access the back of the organ, there should be an adjustment there. For my concert yesterday, I discovered my ADC boxes need to be lubricated, so that will be a summer project for me as well. Shouldn't be too much different for an MDS.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
    • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
    • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
    • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

It should not be a big deal to tighten it up. On most Allen expression pedals there is a threaded rod with a nut to tighten / loosen the tension. Attached is a photo of a 301-B pedal assy. You can see the adjustment nut easily. On your MDS organ there might be a cage / screen box that you need to take out to get at it though. I'm not sure when Allen started putting the enclosures around the Exp pedals. Those are meant to keep mice, cats, small dogs, etc. out of the organ innards.
