That oak finish vaguely reminds me of a Johannus MIDI module I have seen. Wish the pic were clearer though. Could be anything from a sound module or sequencer to a beat box (red and green buttons for start and stop?).John

Sharp eye, Mark. I saw the bell but didn't make the connection. So this thing probably is just sitting on top of the organ for convenience and not connected to the organ at all, right? Searchinferu is trying to determine if the Allen 2160 pictured with this thing has MIDI or not, but I believe this box is a red herring and actually has nothing to do with the organ.John

Thanks Mark. I couldnt find any photos or video of this model which apparently uses cassettes. I did find a newer version that uses flash and allowed chimes or recording from a midi equipped organ. Are u familiar with the one in "my" photo and if so do you think it might be tied via MIDI or would it predate that? I wouldn't think it to be a "fish" John, as the contractor admits he knows nothing about the equipment he is moving out. It sits next to the organ, therefore, it must be part of the organ. Yes or yes? smile. wonder if the box is marketable. Probably not. I think this one plays through an amp, but perhaps they borrow the Allen for that.Comment

I'm sorry to admit that I know nothing about it. Years ago I saw something similar parked near a Casavant, the electronic unit having replaced a venerable fifty bell Schulmerich played from paper rolls and a miniature two manual keydesk. The church remodeled the chancel several years ago and upgraded the Casavant to wireless (!); the box seems to have disappeared. It probably has an internal amplifier and operates independently of the Allen. Let's hope so...Comment
