  • Allen ADC 8000 Help Needed Please

    Greetings All,

I play an ADC 8000 at a local Baptist church and today, when I went in to play the service I noticed something wrong but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

After the service, I went through the organ and discovered that the 8ft Principal on the Great is out. And I mean out, meaning no sound whatsoever. Also, the 8ft Gemshorn and the 8ft Salincial on the swell have gone soft, so soft that they no longer match their respective celeste stops that go along with them. The result is that you can't hear any celesting going on and so those sounds are now useless. Also the same thing has happened to the Alterable 2 which is on the swell. Its volume has decreased as well for no apparent reason but the Alterable 1 seems unaffected.

Any ideas from you as to what has gone wrong would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You

Was the organ recently serviced? In my unprofessional opinion, it sounds like the Gain pot on the board that controls those stops has somehow changed. They can go bad over time. However, you should probably start with the amplifier that controls those channels.

Inside your organ should be a cage chart. If you find the stops on that cage chart, you should be able to narrow the stops down to the one part of one card that controls only those stops. Side note--the alterables generally have their own card and/or channel in an organ that large. If you find it's only one part of a card, then it's probably that half of the card's gain pot that has gone. However, if all the stops are on that card, then perhaps there is a problem with the card. Then, if all the stops that speak from one channel are affected, then it could be the amplifier.

I hope that gives you someplace to start.

Check the AV-1 card in cage A. It's on the right end of the cage in slot 22. There should be a pair of wires leading to an external battery pack. If not, pull that card out and check for leaking batteries. Alterable 2 is next to the AV-1 and would be damaged by leaking batteries.

Reseating all the cards would be a good idea also. Just flip the release levers then push them back in. Of course do this with the power off.
