    Hamman,

I know nothing about it, but I have its little cousin the ADC-4300DKC, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! In my personal opinion, this line is one of the best of the ADC series in tone. It's where they moved the articulation controls on its own card, and much more attention was paid to the envelope generation. I can't believe the ADC-5300 was any less of an organ than mine.

I split my channels in order to get 7 discrete channels (2 Swell, 2 Great, 2 Pedal, and 1 Sub for the 32'). It comes with the Great and Pedal sharing 2 channels. If it has the sub woofer, then that will be a discrete channel.

For your sake, I hope you can pick it up for a good price. Best of luck.

    Michael

Micheal that's great to hear! Here are the 2 articles of info. that I received from the potential seller. The organ is a drawknob even though the spec sheet shows a tab. I'm anxious to see what kind of price they come up with.....trying to keep my "poor mans" poker face lol!

I recently acquired a 5300DK that has the ADR-4, midi and MDC expander added along the way. What a beast! I've had a few gitches along the way figuring out some of the add ins that were done to it, but it is a wonderful instrument. Not a small one, mind you, but a very well appointed organ. If you can buy it right, I'm sure it will serve you well. I once had a MOS-1 organ and there is no comparison in the articulation and ensemble in my limited experience.

Yep. That's a lovely organ. More or less like the 4300 that Michael has, but with a few extra boards in the cage to provide an expanded stop list. Note that the Great has not one but two complete principal choruses, and the swell has both string and gemshorn celestes. This was the largest two-manual stoplist of any Allen during that era. Has more true resources inside than some of their three-manual models.

Note that ADC models are now 25 to 30 years old, so time is affecting them. Unless it has been kept updated all along, it will need new midrange speakers (or re-foaming), will need extensive maintenance and cleaning, could have a lot of dead mini-pots in the tone generator boards (but these are easily fixed by "exercising" them). And if the batteries in the cage (for the alterables) and on the DM-3 board have not been removed from the boards there could be battery leakage and resulting damage. This would need to be checked on ASAP.

A really nice organ though, if you have the room for it. I wish I had room for one of these instead of the smaller Allen I'm about to bring home. It does take up a good bit of space (see the dimensions on the brochure). And at least six speaker cabinets, plus a sub if it's been added.

            P.S. Did I mention 32' Contre Bombarde?

BTW, Michael, that organ has a 32' Contre Bombarde, if that means anything to you.

Good. I wouldn't want you to covet that thing. I'm beginning to think the only cure for your organus collecticus is some kind of add-on 32' Contre Bombarde, if there is such a thing.

Well I don't have it yet..:-P...still working out some "church" politics X-(. It is also believed that this organ has another whole set of additional rear speakers with relays that was added some years ago =-O. I am working with the same "broker" guy that I bought my great big Conn Custom 905 from. He is working really hard for me since he knows I'm going through withdraws since I sold my 301b:P. I really want a MDS but just can't afford it :'( . I'll keep ya updated....oh and its in a church that it was originally installed in.

Uhhh, how do I say, "MDS Expander II?"B-)

No you don't! Once you have this organ, you'd want nothing else, except perhaps a 3rd manual or MIDI. I really haven't heard an MDS yet that matched the later ADC organs. Of course, I haven't heard more than a handful MDS organs, but I have heard more than a handful later ADC organs, and installed/voiced properly, the closest thing is a pipe organ. I swear I can hear which material the pipe is made of when I play many of the stops--especially the pedal stops.

The most difficult decision I made with my 4300 was whether to use Romantic Tuning or turn it off. It sounds stupid, but I chose to keep it on because a pipe organ is never in tune with itself, and it was the closest I could come. Turning Romantic Tuning off made the sound too sterile.

Best of luck acquiring and enjoying your new acquisition.

Michael, that's good to hear. I pray it clears through this church politics quickly but if it doesn't this guy has a ADC 4300A coming available in a few weeks as well. I really started liking my 301b as soon as I added reverb and tweaked on the levels to my liking. I absolutely did not like the Celeste....my Conn 716 has a better Celeste! The 301 was a superbly built organ....I can only guess the 5300 is as much or even better

The Expander II doesn't have any 32' stops on it, at least the two I have had over the years didn't. Also, it's kind of a cut-down version of full MDS, no doubt to scale to the limited DSP resources in the box, but the wavetables are definitely much more stretched and limited than on a full MDS organ.

Ironically, I picked up my first one to go with a big ADC organ, and found it at a local Guitar Center for $60! Some unknowing church must have traded it in on the latest digital gadget.

                            Michael,

You're right. I'm wrong. It's an Allen Ensemble.

                              Hi Hamman,

I own a ADC 5300 DK! It is a very, very nice organ. Also the large D console is nice too. The sound of these late ADC models x3xx is just awesome, if the voicing is done correctly.Click image for larger version
