  • Bombarde 32 on MDS-60

We recently had an Allen MDS-60 installed in our church. This organ has two 32-foot stops - a Contre Violone 32 and a Contre Bombarde 32. The Contre Violone 32 plays through the B-40 subwoofer, but the Contre Bombarde 32 does not (plays through an HC-15). I expected the Contre Bombarde to play through the subwoofer, but the installer said that's not the way it is supposed to work.

I'm curious why the Bombarde would not play through the subwoofer. Can someone educate me?

I'm thinking because its tonal value is more in the reed section and therefore doesn't require extensive low bass reproduction.

      Hi,

Reed stops have very little fundamental frequency in their response, and mostly harmonics, so there is no advantage to sending the reed through a sub-woofer. The HC 15 speaker should handle the 32' reed just fine.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks to all for the info!
