  • Primer for splicing coax cable?

I need to splice some Rodgers speaker cables. They contain two leads for the channel and a very small coax cable that goes to the amp. In total, that would be four conductors.

Also, I was wondering if anyone knew of a link to some ideas of how to solder and insulate this very small coax. My soldering is light on technique and a bit heavy on: "Oh boy, I can't believe that worked!"

    Thanks in advance

First, when splicing wires use the Western Union or lineman's splice (Google it) for the best mechanical/ electrical connection and insulate with heat shrink.

For coax, it's usually my practice to just replace the whole run. Alternatively, you could put on in line connectors like rca's, and I can hear folks yelling right now about that. Whatever the means, the goal is to keep the core insulated from the shield, and to keep the shield as intact as possible.

I do a lot of guitar work, and usually have a supply of copper foil and pushback coax on hand. So conceivably, I could slip a length of pushback shielding over the original, then splice and insulate the core with heatsink, then slide the piece of shielding in place and solder it to the original shield, finishing up with another piece of heatsink. Easier and quicker to do than describe.
