  • Baldwin C630T - Random crackling noise

Hi, our small church has a old Baldwin C630T organ. The organ will start making a crackling noise at random times, even if it's just sitting there idle powered on. It's almost impossible to force the noise to happen. If you lightly shake the organ a bit, the noise settles down and is usually quiet for the rest of the service. The noise seems to just come out of "manual no 1 and 2" speakers from what I can tell at this point. It sounds like a bad connection/loose wire but randomly shaking the wires lightly doesn't seem to reproduce to problem.

Any idea where one might start to try and debug this annoying crackling issue?

    Thanks,

    Dean

Does the expression pedal affect the volume of the noise?

If not, try exercising the power amp volume controls.
They are located behind the Great keyboard bass end cheek block. It's held in place by two screws under the keyboard shelf. Remove those and pull the cheek block forward.

      Thanks for the reply.

We made it through last week with a non crackling organ.... let's just hope it continues.
