  • Help needed electric organ not functioning.

Hello, I am new to the forum and have come here in hope of finding someone who can help me. We have just bought a 24,000 Euro Electric organ of the make "Johannus" it's a really good organ and we're all pleased with it in our church. I wish to have our old electric organ fixed. I don't like it just sitting there rotting away. The make is "Harmonics" manufacturers of electric organs (that's what the plate says). I'm figuring it's a 1980's/1990's model.

    Looks similar to this:

The problem is, it doesn't play any more, when I turn it on the red light goes on so there is electricity, I turn on all the knobs but no sound. we opened it up from the back and found these little grey things burnt so we changed them, i have a friend whose an engineer and he got new ones of the same current capacity and soldered them in place, but as soon as we turned it on they burnt again. Is it maybe the capacitors? I can get photos if you wish to email me or even make a video. Thank you very much for all your help.

I'm not familiar with "Harmonics" as an organ company. The picture you posted looks like a Yamaha Electone to me, from the late 70's or early 80's. You might do well to post some actual pics of your organ, and also some pics of the gray things in the back that were burned. The more detail the better.

I don't blame you at all for wanting to fix up the old one. A good organ can be a source of joy for a very long time, even after the first owner has given up on it.

I'm sure it would be helpful to post a picture of the name plate inside that gives the serial number, etc. Perhaps it will identify the actual maker of the instrument, too.

'Harmonics' is a name I can remember from the late 1960s/early 1970s, so this one may be rather older than you think. But a newer company might have used the same name.

Yes, a photo of the organ please, plus the maker's plate and the damaged parts. If you have issues uploading photos, let me know by PM or email and I can help with that.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

          John,

In the linked photo, the name Yamaha is clearly visible under the top manual on the black face of the keyboard.

          Priest008,

Welcome to the Forum! I hope your time here is well-spent.

Actual photos of your organ uploaded will be the best help you can give us. Like John said, the organ's photo, nameplate under the keyboard or inside the organ, pictures of what was re-soldered, as well as a general, overall photo. Any signs, names, stop lists, or other photos will be very helpful clues. The techs on this Forum are second to none and they are excellent organ detectives, but their advice is only as good as the information they receive.
