  • Rodgers Model 22D keying

I am going to get a Rodgers Model 22D (& I'm told the 22B is similar) for free Yeah! I am told it kind of functions but I don't care, I want to build a VPO from it. I understand that this instrument is from the 1960s. I would like to use the keyboards if possible. Does anyone know it the keying is direct or by a diode matrix? and anything else about the keyboards that might be handy?

I think you'll find that there is a single contact under each key, and a common buss for all contacts. No matrix or multiplexing of any kind back when that one was made.

Should be easy to convert this to a VPO using a MIDI adapter with some kind of common voltage which you can apply to the busses.

Jbird has it right--a single switch per key contacting a common bus. The switch, however, uses 2 wires for reliability, but they both contact the same bus.

Note, however, that the 22D uses a negative ground system, whereas most all later Rodgers organs use a positive ground. This only matters if you are keeping the Rodgers electronics running and adding MIDI/Virtual organ circuitry.

Nice compact console, though limited space to add additional drawknobs.
