  • Advice on wiring Allen HC speakers

    Hi,

I am acquiring a 3-manual Allen ADC organ and 12 speakers spread over 6 channels (2 speakers per channel). Is it preferable to wire each speaker individually from the console or can 1 wire be run, for example, to channel 1 speaker #1 and then "piggybacked" from speaker #1 to channel 1 speaker #2?

It is about a 40' run from console to speakers and I am using #14 wire. Speaker #1 and speaker #2 per channel are about 6' apart from one another.

Thanks, in advance, for the advice.

It is best to do a separate home run from the console to the speaker when the run is that length, though it probably is not essential.

Unless your music room is huge, though, 2 speakers per channel isn't really necessary. If the organ has antiphonal relays, I'd suggest using the 2nd set of speaker for antiphonal.

        Capeguy508,

Welcome to the Forum! I am officially jealous (see Signature below), but only if you have a 32' Pedal Reed and/or ADC-x3xx series organ. I've been looking for an ADC-x3xx 3-manual with 32' Pedal Reed for Symphony use for over 10 years.

On stage, I connect the #1 speaker to the organ w/14ga. or 16ga. wire (ca. 50'), and then run a 16ga. jumper (or larger) in parallel from #1 to #2 speaker (ca. 20' further).

At home, I connect the #1 speaker to the organ, and leave the #2 speaker disconnected. In reading the ADC Audio manual (& from posts I've seen here), however, it leads me to believe the ADC amplifiers will function at their peak with the load of 2 speakers. I would recommend parallel vs. serial connection of the speakers.

All that said, I'd defer to John (Jbird604) and Toodles for more authoritative information on the topic.

P.S. Sorry, I see Toodles just responded.
Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
        • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
        • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
        • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos
