  • Some last questions on the subject of my Baldwin D422 (again)

After all of these months, I am FINALLY putting the Baldwin D422 into the sanctuary of the church I work for! Life got in the way, and I also spent a month or two practicing on said organ, while it has sat in the hallway of the church’s wing. I have a few questions before it goes into the sanctuary... first, I notice that the Baldwin EA-5 amp fits perfectly into a space in the bottom of the organ’s console, if it is stood on end. Can it be left in there, or will that hurt anything? It would certainly save some serious trouble and space, as the spot where the organ is going is already rather cramped anyhow. Also, is there any safe way for a digital organ newbie like me to clean the inside of the console, without doing any harm to the delicate works? I mainly just want to clean out the dust.

I was just wondering the other day how you and your Baldwin were doing. The EA-5 has a fan in it that runs whenever it is On. It sucks the air though from front to back. If yours still has the handles on it ( I think it does, from recalling your photos ) then I think it would be probably OK to put it in the console. The back end of the handles are extended beyond the actual back, so if you stand it upright on those there will be room for air to move out of the back / bottom.

I'm kinda surprised that there is enough room in the console for it, but have never seen the innards of your model.

I usually take a shop vac and vacuum out the dust and dirt in older organs. I have compressed air to blow it out as well, but that just gets the dust places that it is not already at. I made up a nozzle for my shop vac made of 5/8" heater hose, so I don't have to be too concerned about the hard plastic the normal nozzles are made from doing any damage.

Some people have said that shop vacs used inside a digital console can cause static electricity issues, but I have never had any problems like that. And I've done a good number older Allen digitals that way.

If the amp will be inside the console, it would be good to get as much dust out as you can, so the amp does not suck it in.
    Regards, Larry
