Thanks for posting. I had heard that Trinity was going for a pipe organ, but I didn't know that the M&O had been removed. I visited Trinity 3-4 years ago, and was mightily impressed: it was certainly the most persuasive digital instrument that I have ever heard. Could I tell the difference? That's an unfair question, of course, because I knew in advance what I was going to listen to. If I had gone in cold, I would certainly have known that I wasn't listening to Trinity's Aeolian-Skinner. Depending on what was being played, it could have taken me a while to realize that there were no pipes.

I'm sure the new pipe organ will sound spectacular in that space, and I hope the M&O will find a good home in a space where pipes are simply not feasible.

I see that this organ has not one but TWO consoles. Since it isn't Radio City Music Hall, having read the description of the initial Klann console, I can't help but wonder why they felt the need to replace it less than four years in. If one was to look only in the New York area, one might be deceived into thinking that there is a booming market for new pipe organs, what with the relative speed with which certain ones get replaced.
            Roland Atelier AT-90s, AT-80s, AT-70, 30, and 15. Roland VR-760 combo
            Yamaha S-90, Kurzweil PC-3x, Casio Privia PX-330, Roland E-80, G-70, BK-5, Leslie 760, 820
            Moved on:
            Allen 3MT/Hauptwerk, Technics GA1, Yamaha HX1, AR80, numerous Hammonds, including 2 M's, an L, 2 A-100's, XP-2, XM-1/1c, & an XK-3. Roland Atelier AT-30, 60r, 80, & 20r(2 units), and a slew of Leslies (147, 142, 760, 900, 330).
            Korg Triton Le-61, Casio Privia PX-310 & 110, and Kurzweils: PC-2x, SP-88, Pro-III, K1000

              Hi,

From what I understand, the church building is being renovated, so the M&O has been or will be removed. Part of the restoration of Trinity Church, is to install a new pipe organ by Manual Rosales. Supposed to go in in 2021 or therabouts.

The Klann console went into Trinity WS in 2003. The keyboards were replaced a couple of years ago.

Where you got it from that the Klann console lasted only 4 years, I don't know.

What may be of interest here, is the the M&O instrument was intended to be a temporary instrument when contracted for. After several years the board made it a permanent organ. After some years they get a new music director, who wants a new organ in there ( likely to compete with other signiture organs in NYC.)

Same organist / music director wanted a better tracker in (Shlicker) their chapel, so he did, getting a Noak tracker.

I guess change is the order of the day, especially when there are pots of money waiting to be spent.

Trinity Church is the largest landowner in Manhattan, so money is no object for them. Most churches would have a difficult time spending $7 million on a new organ.

I found it interesting that M&O put a very noticeable link to this page on their home page. It seemed odd to me that they would not have any issue talking about their Opus 1 being replaced by a pipe organ. Especially since they have used that organ prominently in their advertising. The link says it will be upgraded to the latest hardware and software with it becoming a new Opus. That means only the consoles will remain, right?

Good question. If they want the organ to essentially be a new organ, I would think the console technology would change as well (over 15 years old now). OTOH, they may simply upgrade the tone generation technology without needing to update/upgrade the control systems. After all, why mess with success?

                    Who knows?

The link says they will upgrade the "console hardware and software". So that very well might mean the control systems. I assume the new Opus based on these consoles could have same stoplist or a completely different one, which would mean new drawknobs.
