Re: walker instruments

Not to be out of line here or anything, but there's this new forum topic started about dealers disclosure on the OrganFoum... can you take it all over there and talk? We're waiting here to read the technical details of Walker.... and I will say, they make a fine instrument. I won't say it's any better than other ones I've heard, but it is fine... and actually, I found I tired of the sound after an hour of the dedication of one near me, but that's what makes this organ world beautiful... you at St Swithens by the Bay can take advantage of the wonder of competition to get what you want. And so can the folks in the Diocese of Wenchoster, and so can Bill, and Jon and Haig and everyone else.... now, I'll pause to let in someone who has details of Walker systems.... anyone?

I personally think that your citation of the Phoenix announcement could easily be put side by side with Mr Odell's details of new instruments they are building... it appears to me that if you aren't interested in a topic here at the OrganForum, then you don't have to read it, at least I don't think that was a requirement when I signed up... but please, a little respect for each other, for crying out loud.... these things are not a cause to attack someone. I personally have found Dave to be quite knowledgable and have never been confused by his position as a representative. He's also a guy with a lot of years in the business and around organs and I respect that.

Moving on.... Walker systems details, please, anyone? Please?

For the record, I have never noticed Dave doing anything that could be described as underhanded or sneaky. It's nice to have dealers and builders on this site so that we can get kind of an insiders perspective on things. Also, I personally, enjoy hearing about new products and what is available from the different companies.

          Thanks, Joe and Andy.

Also, for the record, I have not
had any complaints in four+ years of being on this forum about how I have or
haven't portrayed myself except for 1 person out of 4600 members. I think
I have been upfront and honest. One other person thinks I haven't. Pretty good odds; I can
          live with that.

Why am I here at all? Exactly
          what Joe has stated above
.... to provide info on new products -- Phoenix
          Organs
-- and provide information about Phoenix Organs and their
installations -- this is "The Organ Forum" and I
believe that is on-topic. I am not here to unfairly criticize any other builder’s
organs, and have tried to keep the over-whelming majority of my very few posts about Phoenix and
not other builders. I also have tried to correct incorrect information
that is occasionally posted here about Phoenix Organs, things that I have
direct knowledge of, not hearsay or an "I read somewhere...", or
"I think I remember..." type of thing. There have been some inaccurate
things posted, even on this thread about Phoenix Organs, but at this point I
have no desire to correct them. Someone would just try to shoot down what I say anyway....
after all, I'm just an organ rep that talks with design engineers, tonal
directors, and company owners on a daily
basis... what in the world would I know?

It is very likely, and most
probable, that several organ company dealers, reps, owners, monitor this
forum, but with the atmosphere here I doubt they would ever post anything. Two
have told me that this IS the reason they don't post anything here. This
is a vast loss of knowledge to this community of organ forum members.

Once again, thank you Joe, for the pat on the back --
pretty rare here. One last thought... IF my intention was to come to this
forum to deceive, it would beso very easy to do this. As you know,
on the Internet, anyone can be whomever they wish.

Back to my request.... Walker Instruments Technical Details? You're scaring the people who know something about Walker away, I fear!

By the way, Bill, did you get over to Findlay yet? As I remember you were thinking about driving over so that you could actually compare instruments rather than CD's.

And I think most of us "know who is who"... and as has been pointed out, what if someone is just lying. Heck, I sign in as a dog! Woof!

This is weird - I'm out of the loop for a couple of days, check back in again and find myself mentioned six times in a thread to which (up to now) I haven't even contributed.

I have to say that the Profiles section is NOT easy to find (Webmaster - any room for improvement here? Or am I just going blind?), and when I did finally find it, it wouldn't accept my website address as valid (maybe because it ends in .co.uk rather than .com? Webmaster?).

I thought internet fora were meant to be places where one could meet like-minded people, chat, exchange views and pick each others' brains. I'm really sorry to find that it has degenerated into a slanging match (and that is a GENERAL comment, NOT directed at any individual/s). Can't we all have a little more tolerance and respect for each other, even when we have to agree to differ?

No I haven't gone to Findlay yet. Can you tell me again where the organ is? I am seriously thinking about driving out to Philly to hear the Wanamaker organ on the special day June 9th. I don't know if I can work in a stop in Findlay, but I will look at my plans.

                    [/quote]

Bombarde32 was the guy to contact for Findlay, and you're more than welcome to visit us too, around the Binghamton, NY area. And I don't think I'm looking for you to fall in love with them, I just have this real bug about CD's versus instruments. The good folks at the AGO in Utica had me talk to them on Monday about organ searches, and one of the points I tried to make was that a CD, no matter who gives it to you, does not give a true picture of what an organ maker can create for you (I know, gross generalization here!) In general, you don't know how it was recorded, what post-production has been done, who was playing, where it was recorded, what the instrument recorded was, what it would sound like if the music was what your church plays, what it would sound like if you were in the space where it was recorded in pew 10 on the left side or in the choir loft, or if you were playing the instrument. Oh, and it's being played on your stereo or in your car or on your ipod or something as well... so how do you factor that into the mix? All of the above applies to a church location, obviously... I've got a stack of demo CD's, and to me all they prove is that they make organs.

I know that the church here that bought the new Walker is probably happy. I didn't care for its American Classic voicing and I found that by the end of the concert I tired of the sound. It felt like there was lots and lots of bass and not a good balance in the sound. But again, that's what makes this all interesting, doesn't it. I won't go into money as I don't know exact figures, but lets just say I was expecting it to sound a lot better. But I'm sure they are happy, so what does my opinion matter? Bupkus, that's what.

And let's all just move on, respect each other, learn from each other, and have some fun here. You and I have had our moments in the past too, Bill, but we get along pretty good, don't we? You can see my party affiliation down below now... I've even added "Phoenix Customer", even though I don't think anyone would be confused by my postings!

Yes, this has been one of the inefficient, and ridiculous thread hi-jacks I've seen in some time. If it weren't for the few posts of potentially valuable information, I would ask that it be deleted.
