      Nathan,</P>

When I was an Allen salesman back in the early 80's, it seemslike there was some story about that organ. Maybe it was one of the early MOS organs replacing pipes??</P>

I'm guessing that's a model 600MOS1 organ, judging from the single expression pedal plus the large "D" style console.Andwith 6 generals and 6 divisionals and a single tuttiit would be the old sequential capture action, am I right? (the one with the stops moving in groups rather than all at once -- clakity clakity.)</P>

Being as close to Macungie as you are, I'm guessing it's a pretty good installation. The company has always had great dealers right there in the home area who really tried to do things right (in contrast to a great many dealers in the remoter parts of the country). </P>

How does it sound? I service one of these in an Arkansas church, saw it just last week in fact. This one is in a wonderful church with live acoustics and they had me double up the speakers after they built new wide-openchambers for them a few years ago. It still sounds quite awesome. Hard to believe it's 35 years old.</P>

Now DO YOUR STUFF!! Make them feel bad about all the years they've done without the organ, and make sure that doesn't happen again!</P>

      Good luck.</P>

<DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV>I will do my best. For being as old as it is, it sounds fantastic! I was really surprised when they showed me it, even more surprised that they don't have an organist to play it. I probably won't be playing any services, or not at least until I update my music repertoire. But, everyone listening had some story to tell about that organ, and every single one of them started with "The last time I heard that organ play..."</DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV>

Nice, man, shoot, even the 35 year old allen has toe-studs and mine doesn't (Salty...). What kind of "last time I heard that organ..." stories were they?

Aunt Minnie told Yvonna to always use a bench cushion to protect her lady-like derrierre from getting stretch marks and wrinkles. Perhaps Yvonna or one of her cousins was the last organist there. They had no need to slide around on the bench, seeing how they only played in the bottom octave and kept the right foot planted firmly on the expression pedal.</P>

Seriously, one of my Hammonds has a ridiculous padded bench the makes it a real pain to play the pedals. Another good sign that Hammonds were not really designed for organists. </p>

(PS: that's not to start a fire storm or anything, so don't do it.)</p>

Re: A hog got it's wings today.

                      Hey Nate,</P>

Congrats on getting to play an organ in a real church setting. Is the first organ you've played in a church? It's pretty cool that they'll let you noodle around after hours. I am currently learning/practicing on the Allen 632-D in the church where I grew up. It's very similar to this one, but three manual, and a bit larger spec. Even though I am an organist elsewhere, this organ is a far superior instrument both soundwise, and technically. There is nothing better than a true AGO console to get you familiar with where things should be. Only thing better would be to have drawknobs instead of tabs (though that may just be preference).</P>

What can you tell us about the church building, or the speaker installation? Fairly reverberant, dry, etc. The one I play is in a church that seats about 400-500, but has carpeting, so it's still somewhat dry, but not totally. We are talking about possibly removing the carpet when we replace the organ, which will be within the next several months. It uses about 12 speakers with 5 amplifiers, mounted in chambers where a pipe organ used to be. I never got to see the pipe organ because it was removed before I was born, sadly.</P>

Anyway, don't want to get off track. Definitely keep us up to date with your progress. I for one would be curious to hear how you make out. If you ever want to play our organ and can make a trip to East Stroudsburg, you're welcome to check it out.</P>

                      Have fun!</P>

                          Hey Orgrinder010, right on! [Y]</P>

They haven't heard the thing in a while, eh? Time to show them what they've been missing! Make that baby sing! </P>

I think I noticed a card reader on that Allen. Is that right? If so, that's cool. That'll make that instrument even more versatile. You can buy the cards on the Allen website, they are very reasonable, I think $6 for three. You can buy Trumpet, Chimes, Larigot, and a whole lot more. I'd buy a stack of them and go right to it! </P>

                          Have fun!</P>

                          Cheers! ReedGuy</P>

                            Hello,</P>

I actually used a card for the first time in quite a while today. One of the pieces Iwas playing called for a reed, and I just couldn't get the sound I wanted with the reeds on the swell. One scan of the "Reed harmonic 8" card gave me what I was looking for. Actually a pretty bold reed, with good clarity. If you can find that one, grab it.</P>

I would pass on the persussion type ones though, not that great in my opinion.</P>

Yeah, those cards sure are nice to have, especially on some of Allen's smaller (much smaller i.e. two manual 20-30 stop) instruments, which lack some of the resources available via card. One of the cards I have (or rather that the school has) is for a chrysoglott, a theater organ stop, now why would someone, in the middle of a hymn want to start using a chrysoglott? It is a very annoying stop, and I see little or no use for it. I will now put my soapbox away.</p>

Btw, what is that big bar thing across the top?</p>
