  • Rodgers 750 BE question

I may have the opportunity to get a Rodgers 750 "BE". What does that designation mean? Any comments on the quality of that vintage Rodgers?

    Thanks in advance.

The one good thing I know for a fact is that the Rodgers Scarborough 750 that I was titulaire of in the early eighties had X amount of stops, and the 750B had X+Y stops. It was made during a period of some of Rodgers best technology, and in a good set-up, the sound is very pipe-like; I loved the one I was captain of.

"B" means is is a 750B--i.e., the B version, or 2nd version of the 750. The "E" means external speakers. Here's the brochure.

The original version had a single row of stops, and did not include sub-octave & super-octave couplers.

The 750B is a pretty nice model.

I'll concur with the above. I own a 750BE with Walker enhancements (additonal partial set of swell oscillators added and some custom 'activity' circuits grafted in) and have found it to be an exceptionally nice home practice instrument.

I have upgraded the original capture action to accomodate 10 generals (rather than the stock 8) for both memory levels and am planning to upgrade it further with a third manual and to build it out as a drawknob console. I have parts on hand for most of this work, just hoping to find the time. Have also added a zimbelstern activated from the provided piston on the swell manual.

I'd heavily recommend a Lexicon MX-400 4 channel digital reverb to use with it unless it is going to be in an acoustically active setting. I added one and made it sound much more realistic in the very "dry" space it is installed in at home. It should have an integral spring tank reverb, which works passably but is a bit lacking in realism.
