Hello,
We recently received a non-working Rodgers 580 and would like to give it a try to repair it and use it in our parish. The organ looks well cared for but we do not know its history.
The current status of the organ is as follows:
1. Switching on the organ only produces a low humming transformer noise (barely noticeable).
2. No other sound is produced from the manuals or pedal board, no lights go on.
3. None of the voice switches light when pushed.
4. The piston buttons underneath the manuals light when pushed.
5. When opening the back and removing the cover of the digital voicing board, a green LED on this board lights intermittently for about 5sec after power-on, then stays on. The red LED does not go on at any time. The orange LED lights continuously (though it looks like at half-power).
6. No Capacitors look swollen or damaged.
7. Inside looks clean, no burns, no glue oozing from keyboard (as I learned on the forum, this can be the case with some Rodgers...)
We already disconnected, cleaned and reconnected all connectors we managed to disconnect, but this did not give any results. We do not know however if those gray flat cables can be easily disconnected and reconnected. We would like to do this so we can remove the power supply board and have a closer look at it (check if the power regulators are still well soldered to the board etc...).
Our questions are the following:
- Any tips on where to look for typical faults and how to fix them ?
- Is there a place where the service manuals for those organs can be downloaded ?
- How can we disconnect/reconnect those gray flat cables (if at all)?
The organ is located in Spain, we know there is a Rodgers dealer in Spain, but having him come over to service this organ would probably cost more than what this organ currently is worth.
Kind regards and thanks for any help/tips on this issue.
Geert
