  • Is this a scam?

There is an EBay auction for an Allen G450 with no reserve, starting at $18,000 with a buy it now price of $24,000. I’m thinking of reporting it to Ebay as a possible fraud.

The Allen Organ is not a G450. This is also being discussed at "On The Internet." Here is the link:

When I read this post, I thought the question was whether the $18000 price was too much for an Allen G450. Not sure what part of the post the OP thinks is fraud.

Edit: I understand now after reading the previous post submitted while I was typing.

The purpose of having a lower starting price is to initiate bids below the minimum $24,000 required by the seller.

No issues here - move along please!
A G450 brand new would be closer to $100,000. I’ve notified Ebay in the past about auctions that turned out to be frauds, because the asking price was too good to be true, for various keyboards that I was familiar with. In those cases, someone hijacked someone else’s Ebay account. So yes I had very good reason to be suspicious. After reading the other post, it’s obvious this organ is not a G450, but not even any Allen G series organ.

Not too much, WAY too little.

Does eBay care? I've never heard of eBay reacting in any way to such listings.

Yes, they do care. If an auction is reported and it turns out to be fraudulent, they pull the ad. They likely ban offenders who repeat.

The listing I see says R380 in the title and G450 in the description.

              8 channels + 2 reverb channels (w/ Lexicon MX200)

I contacted the seller and told him, or her, that the organ in the picture was, in addition to not being a G450, also not any model in the “G” series. Perhaps they changed it after it was pointed out to them.

I suggested to the seller that he/she take a picture of the plaque with the model and serial number (usually found by lifting the lid) and post it.
