  • Extra Allen MOS-1 couplers

I wanted to add a Pedal to Great coupler to my Allen, so I checked my tech manual and found it and other modifications.

If you know what you're doing, you can add these couplers by having an unused stop switch ground the following:

SWELL TO GREAT (natural) J21-14 (the standard coupler is synthetic)
    PEDAL TO GREAT (natural) J21-16
    PEDAL TO SWELL (natural) J21-12
    GREAT TO SWELL (natural) J21-10

Note: since they are "natural" couplers, polyphony issues must be taken into account.

    Best to all, Bill

    Bill,

I'm sure that information varies by model. However, thanks for passing the information along regarding the possibility of adding couplers to the organ.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
    • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
    • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
    • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

Michael, according to the tech manual this applies to the KBA of every MOS-1 computer system, since as you know the larger models used the "building block" system (excluding things like SDDS, which were after my time). Of course, on 'doubled' organs you'd have to make these connections on both computer systems.
Also, as you know some of the multi-computer models use "slide switch" coupling, which would be a game changer... but this info should be good for S 100-300 and 600 series.

A couple years ago I was given a free model 603 (MOS-1) and discovered that someone had already modified it to make the pedal playable from the swell with a tab in the pedal division. I assume that the owner had wanted to play pedals with one hand without affecting the rest of the notes. It was a pretty nifty solution for that particular desire. (But I disconnected it anyway, since it was such an oddball thing, and nobody looking to buy that organ would've wanted it or understood it.)

I may add the "Pedal to Great" function to the 301B at church also, since we have a pretty good church member pianist who subs for me during vacation, and this would make her sound a lot better, I think.
