• The First Annual BuzzyReed "Bring Your Organ to Youtube" day....

Announcing the first annual "Buzzy.." well, you read the subject line you're not an idiot.

So John's website which is simply great, and the various Youtube organ postings which are almost without exception a disturbing manifestation of the state of music education in the US and UK, yet, they have inspired me to ask all of you to play something, anything on your favorite organ. We all promise not to judge or criticize the playing or even your selection of literature (but for the Love of God, please no Marty Haugen or David Hass). We just want to hear what your ELECTRONIC organ sounds like.

I am especially interested in anyone who uses a newer Allen or Rodgers or such, or even an old beater like the one I've got at home.

Sorry to say that I can't even operate my microwave, much less post on Youtube and though two of the four organs I use are nice, they are nothing special. But I am interested in what electrronic organs all of you play. Remember, we don't care what you play (as long as it is not Haugen, Hass, or the missatribiuted Bach "Little Preludes and Fugues"-- shudder...

There are already some really neat posts of some younger organists playing on youtube. One even seems to have a #$#@ clue even though we are not judging performance here..

hmmph.. better get to bed, it was 100 here today which only means church in the basement tomorrow-- no offense but I can't play Lutheran services on a Hammond which is all we have in the basements of the churches. Better fire up the AC to "Blitzkreig" and get some rest for tomorrow. I'm not a drinking man, but on that organ, I don't think anyone will know, besides, their brains will be so fried they wouldn't notice if I played Fucik's Entrance of the Gladiators. I do think, however, that if I listed it as a prelude the composer's last name would cause a meltdown of the church secretary...

Doh! I wish I had the ability to record something. I don't have a camera or I'd gladly contribute[:(]

        Buzzy,

I just now went to youtube and set myself up an account. It's very easy. Just go to www.youtube.com and click on "sign up" and follow the directions. The heartbreak of it all is that after you get your account established then visit your own home page, at the bottom of the page it will say "You Have No Friends." How'd they know that, I wondered? [:(]

Signing up,of course, is the easy part. Now I've got to get my teenage son to show me how to make and upload a video. He's an old hand at that stuff-- left me in the dust years ago. Even though I got him started using a computer when he was about 3.

You're asking for samples of the sounds of various electronic organs, right? As soon as I learn how and can get it done, I'll upload a video of the Rodgers 890 (analog)at church. Then maybe I'll do one with the Baldwin D422 (an early digital)at home. If I get good at this I might be able to video some of the organs I service around the state, Allen, Rodgers, Baldwin, Johannus, and most everything else, some old, some new.

So, maybe I'll have something to share in the next couple of weeks.

Why don't you try it too? You'll never know until you do.

We are still waiting for you to youtube your organ. We don't care what you play or how well you play it, we just wanna hear as many electronic classical organs a possible.

I am especially interested in newer Allen digitals and the late analog Rodgers right before the great digital change over. How screwed would you have felt if you just bought a new Rodgers Analog right at the switch over??

come on folks! Please we are all sooo interested!!

Buzzy, from your last thread, I am assuming you are asking us to play a pipe/digital organ, rather than.......[:$]

This week I got a webcam so could play something on my 1991 Viscount Opera organ. But it needs servicing as some of the notes doin't play properly.

Did you see my post of 20th July in the thread "What did they sound like?" It has sound samples of a late 80's divider organ.

                    Buzzy,

I really want to take part in this. I have set up a youtube account, but have been working too much to try making a video.

Maybe one day next week I can put up some kind of really amateurish thing. Good thing you aren't asking us to actually play anything!

Really fabulous idea. Glad you suggested it.

Good. I can grant two of your wishes -- one of the very last analog Rodgers organs, the very fine and complete 890 in my church, and a Baldwin D422 at home. The 400 series Baldwins were the very last classical organs actually built by Baldwin, in the American Baldwin organ company plant at Fayetteville, Arkansas. Everything after that came from Galanti or Viscount.

Only way you can do better is to find a genie in a bottle who would be willing to grant THREE wishes!

I've just managed to put on a recording of me playing the good old Widor Toccata. It's on my oegan at home, an old Gem prelude. However the sound quality is not very good, as it is on my digital camera, so sorry about that. The recordings not too bad though, there are a few mistakes, but I've worked hard on the articulation, and accenting all the chords. Have a listen and see what you think! The organ isn't that good, especially through the camera, but it serves my needs at home!

                          Kind Regards,
