I'm getting a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" message that usually means it doesn't exist. Is this the correct link?

Re: 1989 Viscount 920
I too am getting a "can't display" message. Perhaps you could just copy and paste the advert and picture straight onto the forum.

About Viscounts...They aren't my favourite make of organs. Early Viscounts have very poor build quality, and even the most recent models are still some way off Allens or Rodgers. If its cheap enough then by all means go for it, but if you're budget can stretch to it, I would go for an Allen, myself.

You'll find some niggly things regarding Viscounts:

- Key "touch" feels very synthetic and a little on the heavy side. Unlike Allen Keyboards, the touch can't be adjusted. Pedalboard keys have very short travel which can be offputting for those who are used to the travel found on instruments like Allen & Rodgers.

- Expressions have little resistance...difficult to get a smooth volume transition. Tightening them will help but they do come loose after a short period of time

- Overall build quality ain't impressive. Stuff like flex in the bench joints are quite common...flimsy sounding panels...loose drawers

- Sound quality on early Viscounts is OK, it doesn't come anywhere near an Allen or Rodgers, but for home practice its sufficient.

- You'll need to consider whether it is still possible to get parts for that model. Allen and Rodgers are generally good for stocking parts for older models, but Viscount I don't know - plus you'll need to find a tech who has experience of them if it does breakdown.

- Internal speakers are really rubbish, Ok for practice, but if it comes with external speakers even better.

1971 Allen Organ TC-3S (#42904) w/sequential capture system.
Speakers: x1 Model 100 Gyro, x1 Model 105 & x3 Model 108.

Re: 1989 Viscount 920
Hi,

I think nullogik has it pretty much right. I do think the newer Viscounts are a quantum leap better than the stuff they put out 15 or 20 years ago. Both build quality as well as tone production is now quite good. The thing about most of these continental European organs is that they were based on continental European thinking. So they tended to have stiffly sprung keyboards, expression shoes that were not balanced and felt flimsy, pedalboards that were clattery, combination actions that were hard to figure out, tonal palettes that were distinctly European, etc. Also the fact that they were manufactured to be sold cheaply to homes, and not to churches so much, because churches were supposed to have pipe organs, made them seem cheap in a lot of people's eyes. The last 10 years or so, has seen a great change and now they cater more evenly to all global markets.

Overall, this organ that is for sale, I would pass on it. Looks to be a late model analog, probably an early to mid 80s design. A few things to note about this Viscount/Domus organ that haven't been mentioned,

1) because it is a Domus, the Great and Swell stops on the stop rail will be reversed. Annoying as all get out!

2) the capture action - works in a very confusing manner. Has LEDs that over-ride stop setting, but then you have user pistons, factory presets, and a whole bunch of confusing cancels.

3) the potentiometers in these organs were horrible, and there were a number of them to control, pedal volume, great volume, overall volume, reverb, etc.

4) for the US, there is no tech or parts support for these organs at all

This is an organ I would pass on!
