Baldwin C600 opinions?

I have the opportunity to trade my early model Galanti Praeludium 2 manual for a 3 manual Baldwin C600 w/ 2 external speakers. I won't have a chance to play the Baldwin for 2 weeks and don't want to seem too interested if this won't be worth my time. Anyone played this model? I like the digital sounds of my Galanti (I bought it for $100.00 a year ago). I think the Baldwin is analog, but can't verify it. This is going to be my home organ, partly for fun and partly for practice. Any opinions on sound or value would be appreciated. [:D]</P>

I'm not sure why you would want this exchange. If you like the sounds out of the Galanti Praeludium, you probably won't like the Baldwin.</p>

The Baldwin C600 is a 60s design (I believe this model came out in 1967). Uses dividers, so is of an analog design. It was a transistor design, but most of those early transistor designs sounded worse than the tube jobs from the 50s. Baldwin was never considered to be the paradigm of reliability.</p>

The Galanti Praeludium (is it a Praeludium I or II), essentially debuted in 1986 and was produced till approx 1993. While they didn't have the build quality that say Allen or Rodgers had at the time, it did have something no other organ had.........sampled sound. It also had a rudimentary MIDI implementation, which was kind of novel at the time. These organs are also still supported by GeneralMusic in Chicago.</p>

The Baldwin C600 is old, sounds inferior, is an orphan. Typically these organs are worthless.</p>

AV, thanks for your reply. I'm new to the forum and thought I'd find a guiding voice. Actually, the only reason to consider the trade was to move to 3 manuals to help with practice. I had an old Howard by Baldwin that was dreadful. [N] I played a 2 manual Baldein era 1985ish for a while that wasn't bad, but had a feeling the C600 wouldn't cut the mustard. I'll hold out until I can purchase something better.</P>

OMG!!! You got a preludium for $100???!! I'd sell a kidney for a decent practice organ like that... until I can afford my Allen Protege or Rodgers 525 or some other compact unit.. Wow.. $100.. </p>

I was fortunate, I know. The church actually advertised another Baldwin for 100.00 (not the same 3 manual I was considering), not sure what, but it had full pedal board. They were phasing out all organ and going praise band. Since I didn't have anything, I thought I'd take a look. It sucked big time!!! I said no thanks, and they said, "Well we're cleaning out the STORAGE SHED and have another one our organist didn't like to play. We've just not had time to list it. Would you like to take a look?" I thought what could be worse than that I'd just seen so sure, why not. It wasn't hooked up or anything, but when I opened the cover I said hmmm. We plugged it in and tah dah. I said how much? She said, oh, the same, $100.00. They even delivered it the same afternoon.</P>
