  • Allen 6300A

Just bought an Allen 6300A. Putting it into my home. Was in a church with Main, Congregational and Antiphonal speakers and a Subbass. 19 sets of wires in all, cut and basically not labled - I got the subbass figured out.
Question : do I need to hook all the wiring up to speakers? What is minimum I can hook up to get full range/affect of instrument? Also, what are these connection blocks for as pictured? Speakers that came with it are HC15, HC14, and HC12. Six of each. Can a speaker handle more than one set of input? I do have it wired up at the moment, but am not sure I have anything except the bass correct.
Any help and input is welcome.

A speaker cannot handle more than one input. If you try this, you will damage your amplifier.

Since you list 3 different types of speakers and say you have 6 of each, you must have a dedicated subbass speaker (usually called subwoofer) not included in those listed. Since you say you have that figured out, I won't address it.

HC-14 and HC-15 are the same speaker design--just one is furniture finished veneer and the other is utility finish (brown paint). You can interchange those freely.

You do not need all 19 sets to operate this organ; the base design calls for 6 speaker systems, and the subwoofer channel is an option, so you need 6 additional speakers at a minimum. I would try using the HC14/15's on all the other (non subwoofer) channels. For a home installation, I probably would not install the antiphonal speakers. But if your home is built so that a remote set of speakers makes sense you could install those at any time.

The HC12 has a stronger bass response than the HC-14/15. When the 6300 is installed with just 6 speakers, the HC-12 is used on the channels that carry the 32 ft. stops.

Here is the voicing chart for this organ. The 32 ft stops are carried in channel 3 as shown on this chart. When the subwoofer crossover is installed, it will be used on this channel.

Your picture isn't yet posted--since you are new and moderated, an administrator will have to approve the picture before it is posted. Once that happens, I'll check back and see if I can identify things for you.

You wrote "you need 6 additional speakers at a minumum". This could be misinterpreted to mean in addition to the 19 he already has, but I think you meant that he needs a minimum of 6 speakers and the unmentioned subwoofer to use the instrument as designed.

One thing I don't think has already been said is that the HC-12 needs to be connected in reverse polarity from the HC-14 & HC-15. If you fail to do so, you will have very little or no bass at all.

Wow. Thanks, tootles ! Since the organ has a main and congregational option as well as antiphonal, can I play it all through the Main ? Does this mean I would only use 6 wires (+ sub) instead of 12 or all 18 ?

The organ is designed to play through 6 channels (7 with the subwoofer option). Each channel has a speaker. Each speaker needs 2 wires (usually combined in one cable).

I am sure the organ can be brought back to a standard speaker configuration using 7 speakers total (6 main plus subwoofer), but we'll need to get your pictures posted to know specifically how to do this.

The normal arrangement for this organ would be main, and, optionally, and antiphonal. The "congregation" might be some splitting off of some part of the organ, likely the "great and pedal".

What do the rocker tabs say? They might be an indication of how it is set up.

I have the same organ in my home. The room it is installed in is about 16' x 20'. I used one main speaker for each of the 6 channels and a SR-5 sub on channel 7. Amps are set at about 50%. John B came and voiced it for the room. Sounds great. It can purr soft like a kitten or wake the dead. Depending on the room or area you place it in you may not need all the extra speakers.

I made an error a bit ago. What I called channel 7 is actually a split off channel 3 to a separate amplifier channel to drive the sub. In regards to your purchase, I'm jealous. That organ must have sounded fantastic in the church.
