  • Ahlborn Galanti Angelus and Alesis Nanoverb

I just bought a very nice A-G Angelus organ, and the seller included an Alesis Nanoverb reverb unit. The Angelus itself has a built in reverb, but it doesn't sound very good. Anyway, anybody have any ideas or instructions on how to install the Nanoverb. I looked for line-out jacks coming off the preamp, or something similar, but couldn't find anything that looked promising. Thank you.

I'm personally not sure of how one would install this reverb system on an A-G organ, however I just had a similar question regarding my MDS organ at home. jBird seemed to really hit the nail on the head with an explanation, however, again -- that is on a completely different brand of organ, so if you read that thread, assume your Nanoverb will be connected very differently. Just thought I'd point that out in case you were to read the thread on my organ.
    Good luck, though!
And Congratulations on your new organ; having one at home really is a neat thing!

If I'm recalling correctly about the smaller 6-channel-output A-G's from that era, which included the Angelus, there is an "effects" section to the output matrix board in the back of the organ which includes line-level sends and returns for exactly this purpose. I've attached a picture of the larger 16-channel Chronicler II/III output matrix board, but I'm almost certain the smaller version has the same effects send and return section. To be clear, this is inside the back of the organ, not underneath the keyboards, and only visible when you remove the wood back panel.

The Nanoverb would just go in line there using regular 1/4" TS cables. Organ "send" to Nanoverb input, Nanoverb output to organ "return."

Hi Michael, Your photo looks similar to mine, although yours is a little more elaborate. I understand the line level output, but how would the returns be labeled? In my case, would that be the "Aux In" L & R just to the right of center? Thanks!! DaveClick image for larger version Name:	DSC00081.JPG Views:	0 Size:	67.9 KB ID:	665735

          Michael,

I just re-looked at the two pictures. Mine does not have the "Effect" bank of connections. I will try connecting Output channels to the Nanoverb, and then from the Nanoverb to the Aux In. Just ordered the cables. Hopefully that will do the job.

The approach you describe should work fine, you will just need to set the NanoVerb wet/dry mix control to 100% wet so you aren't feeding two copies of the dry signal to the internal speakers (and potentially causing cancellation). Then use the level controls on the Nanoverb to adjust the amount of reverb going back to the organ.

          Hi,

Have you got an Owner's manual. Is rather useful.

couple of things. There is a battery mou ted on the CPU board that needs to be replaced somewhere between 8 and 10 years. These batteries have a habit of going leaky, and once they do they damage the circuit board, and cause it cease functioning.

These organs can sound very good when hooked up to a good 6 channel external audio, and then voiced accordingly. Straight out of the box, these organs did not sound terribly interesting.

Thanks, Michael. My cables should arrive tomorrow, so we'll see how it works. Good advice on setting the mix control to 100%.

Replying to Arie, yes I do have an owners manual, but 90% of it is how to use the remote. It does not address that patch panel that's behind the back cover. Guessing I'd probably need a service manual for anything inside the cabinet (?). I did, indeed, change out the battery. Rather than solder in a new one, I wired in a battery box that holds three 1.2 v AAA nicads (which provides the necessary 3.6v), with enough wire to allow it to be mounted it near the back so it's easily accessible (when the next 8-10 year replacement is due). Seems to work great, eliminates possibility of leaking on CPU, and very convenient to purchase AAA nicads.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'll let you now how it works tomorrow.

Great success! Connected Channel 1 out through the Alesis to the Aux In. The trick, as noted earlier, is to turn the Mix knob fully clockwise. Those two RCA plugs go to my stereo pre-amp. Had to turn both the input and output to 100%, but the whole works really sounds amazing. I also wired it in so the key turns on the Alesis as well as the organ. At some point, I may get longer cables and mount the Alesis next to the organ's control panel under the front console, but it's fine where it is for now; and I doubt I'll need to make frequent changes. For the time being, I'll leave the back of the organ off so I can tweak as needed.

Here, also, is my solution to the 3.6V battery. Three 1.2 nicads =3.6V; they are isolated from the circuit board so no risk of corrosion; and they are easily changeable when the time comes.

Thank you very much to everyone who took the time to respond to my inquiry. This is turning out to be a great organ, and I'm very pleased with the decision that I made.
