  • Baldwin D912 problems

    Hi All,
So, thanks to John Vanderlee, the church that I regularly attend is all set organwise, but another parish that is connected to my parish in various ways has expressed interest in having me look at their Baldwin D912. I have played it before, and last I played it, the pedals were strange, they work, but you have to push them down, and then move them side to side (while pushing down) to get it to sound. The swell is significantly quieter than the great, and some of the bulbs on the lighted drawknobs are out (the stop works, but does not light up the drawknob).

The organist was recently visiting our church, and they told me that now there are several notes that do not work. I have sent an email inquiring about more of the details.

I know that this model is one of the Baldwin badged Viscounts. I am aware of the problems with the diode overheating, the batteries, and the power supply, but that is about it. The drawknobs that don't light up are probably just the bulb, so that should be easy, but I am not sure about anything else. I feel like the swell being quieter then the great could be due to failing caps, but not 100% sure.

Have not had a chance to take the back off yet, and will not for a while, as it is about 2 hours away from me.
I will see what I can do for them, but I may be on the hunt for another organ soon...
will keep updated with any new info.

    thanks,
    Christian

Sounds like they need a visit from an organ tech. That's a lot of trouble for an amateur to wade into!

Alright, a bit of an update...

They had someone come out in August of 2017, and he was supposably a retired piano tuner who had worked on organs. I know nothing about him or what he did/knew. He told them that "it was in great condition" whatever that means...

The organist has told me that D3 is currently intermittent, but aside from that, there is not much else (on top of what I mentioned before). It might just be easier for them to get a new organ, but whatever, I will see what I can do for them, but if anyone has some reasonably priced church organs in the Salem, NH area, then let me know (not sure what their budget is, but I would assume about 1k; they might budge to 2k depending on what it is). Also, the organist told me that they do not want anything with >2 manuals, and preferably internal speakers, but if external, then less and smaller the better... If you have anything, then PM me.
